Dogs are welcome on the beach all year and can be off lead. The rules here come from the National Park rather than a council order: leads are needed in the Cuckmere Valley from March to July, where birds nest on the ground, and near livestock, cliffs and open water. The park also asks that dogs stay out of the meanders and lagoons.
