What is the safest way to find a puppy in the UK?
The safest route is directly through a licensed breeder who registers litters with the Kennel Club. Since Lucy's Law came into force, all puppy sales must go directly from breeder to buyer. No pet shops, no third-party dealers. Always visit the puppy with its mother at the place it was born before committing.
Is it better to get a puppy or a rescue dog?
Neither is better. They suit different people at different stages of life. A puppy requires significant time, patience and consistency in the first year. A rescue dog may settle faster but needs understanding of its history. The right choice depends on your household, your experience and your lifestyle.
How much does it cost to adopt a rescue dog in the UK?
Rescue adoption fees typically range from around £150 to £350 depending on the charity and the age of the dog. Dogs Trust charges £300 for dogs in England, Wales and Scotland. This usually covers microchipping, vaccinations, neutering and initial health checks. That is considerably less than most puppies from breeders, which typically cost between £800 and £3,500.
Can I find a specific breed through rescue?
