About this walk
Lyndhurst is the informal capital of the New Forest, with easy access to open heath, ancient woodland and grazing lawns used by free-roaming ponies, cattle and, in autumn, pigs. Dogs must be kept under close, effective control at all times, on a lead near livestock and during ground-nesting bird season (March to July). Keep dogs away from fallen acorns during pannage (roughly September to November), as they are toxic.
