A small but historic National Trust site in the centre of Rayleigh, Rayleigh Mount is the earthwork remains of an 11th-century Norman motte-and-bailey castle mentioned in the Domesday Book. A cool, wooded path circles the perimeter of the mound, with a short climb to the top giving views over the town, making it an easy, quick walk suitable for all abilities.
