England's only true mountain forest, Whinlatter rises steeply above Bassenthwaite with a network of waymarked forestry trails and viewpoints over the Skiddaw range. Wide gravel tracks and shaded pine make it a solid all-weather dog walk, with a cafe and visitor centre at the base.
