About this walk
Managed by Essex Wildlife Trust on a restored sand and gravel extraction site near Wivenhoe, Cockaynes Wood combines two areas of mature woodland with open heathland, ponds and the Sixpenny Brook running through Villa Wood. Hard-packed paths cross the open ground while a partial boardwalk carries walkers over boggier woodland sections, with gentle inclines throughout.
