Wells-next-the-Sea handles dogs more cleverly than most of the Norfolk coast. Instead of blanket summer bans, both Wells beach and neighbouring Holkham use zones: parts of the sand carry restrictions (at Holkham from April to August), while other stretches stay open to dogs. That zoning means you can walk a dog on this coast in every month of the year, as long as you read the signs when you arrive.

Is the Holkham pinewoods walk dog friendly?

The walk everyone comes for is the five-mile Holkham Beach and Pinewoods route, an easy amble through Corsican pines onto one of the biggest beaches in England. At low tide the space is absurd, and outside the restricted zone and season your dog can make full use of it.

Where can you eat with a dog in Wells-next-the-Sea?

Back in town, the harbour front and high street have a solid dog-friendly scene, with Flour and The Carpenters Arms among the 21 reported dog-friendly places in our directory. Further along the coast, note that Blakeney Point and parts of Cley carry restrictions from April to August to protect ground-nesting birds and seals, so keep dogs close around the nature reserves.
