About this walk
England's largest area of semi-natural ancient woodland in single ownership, this deep limestone dene run by Natural England stretches from Peterlee down towards the coast at Castle Eden Burn. Paths follow the wooded ravine past old quarry workings, springs and the burn itself, with a network of interlinking trails suited to a there-and-back stroll or a longer circular route. A visitor centre with a dog-friendly cafe sits near the main entrance.
